February 2017

After graduating from Texas State University in 2007, Matt McGee worked for Contract Land Staff before joining NuStar Energy, where he is now a Right of Way Agent. Thus far, his job has taken him to projects in North (Collin and Grayson), East (Polk, Trinity and Houston), and South Texas (San Patricio, Nueces, Bee and Karnes) counties. Matt enjoys the many friendships he has developed while working in the Right of Way industry.

A native of Humble, Texas, Matt has been a Houston Astros fan his entire life, and enjoys nothing more than watching a game with family and friends. As anyone who meets Matt quickly learns, he has a wicked sense of humor!

Chapter 39 President, Erin Newberry, has been a fearless, hardworking leader and member of the IRWA for the past 5 years, during which time she also has acted as chapter Vice President, Secretary, and Education Chair. She is a certified Course Coordinator who serves on Region 2’s Education Committee.

Erin is currently a Real Estate Specialist with Bexar County, acquiring partial and full acquisitions for Asset Management, Flood Control and Road projects in and around Bexar County. Her vision for Chapter 39 is to grow its membership, focus more on educational courses, and maintain the excitement for the 2021 IRWA Education Conference in San Antonio whose bid she helped secure.

“Our chapter worked so hard to make the bid for 2021,” Erin says. “Everyone had a part in the success, including sponsors, members and chapter leaders. I cannot thank our leadership team and bid team enough for seeing us through the bid last year. Each and every one took a great deal of personal time to volunteer for the multitude of tasks and small details that helped us be successful.”

Ashley Takacs, a native of nearby Floresville, is a real estate appraiser with Allen, Williford & Seale, Inc., where she has worked since graduating from Texas A&M University in 2014.

During her time at AWS, Ashley has appraised properties that were to be encumbered by pipeline easements, highway right of ways, and utility easements. She appreciates the many different ways that right of way affects our everyday lives, and enjoys being part of the process. She currently holds a Texas Appraiser Trainee license, and is working toward becoming a state-certified appraiser.

Ashley likes to bake, loves to read, and says that Christmas is her favorite time of the year.
